THE TRAGEDY OF ROMEO AND JULIET By William Shakespeare

Imagine being in a family that you would kill to protect. Everyone in town is after your money, and some of them want your blood. One night, your teenage son is out too late. You pray that your enemies haven't found him, but the reality is worse: he has already been struck down... by Cupid.

Theatre Battery’s THE TRAGEDY OF ROMEO AND JULIET aimed to bring the Kent community together in a conversation about what it takes to build love in a world of enmity. Performing a cut of Shakespeare’s original text, the production provided an opportunity for Kent audiences and youth to experience a story that is standard to high school literature studies, but rarely performed by ensembles that include age-appropriate casting. The artistic team and cast included professional artists and frequent Theatre Battery collaborators, students from the Kent School District, artists from the Kent Senior Center drama club, local musicians, and community members. Real teenagers are portrayed the leading roles of Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt, Mercutio, and others, with professional actors from the Seattle area joining the cast in the principal adult roles.
